Taylor Russell McKenzie was conceived in Vancouver, British Columbia on July 18 the 18th of July, 1994. She was also raised in Toronto, Vancouver, and Montreal. Russell was the daughter of a mother of white and black parents. She was raised on her mom's side. She told me that as a young girl she was rejected by her peers because of the color of her skin. The family struggled with financial issues. They were constantly moving and moved sixteen times in order to support her father's work. Russell shared that despite all the difficulties there was always an opportunity to reinvent, to create something new. Russell's parents had financial difficulties and she was constantly traveling. Russell was eighteen when she started her first acting class. She saved money from work to purchase the car she needed and drove to Los Angeles to audition. When her money ran out and she returned home, she went back to work, until she had enough earnings to be able to audition again. It went on for four consecutive years, until she finally got her first big television appearance.
