In the beginning, after being influenced by the shadows she observed on the grass of trees, she worked for months to create a method that didn't depict the object in a 2D image. If the object is alive or perishable like fruits and people and other objects, they are transformed into paintings of their own. The ephemeral nature of her art style is apparent and what remains in Alexa Meade's work is the photograph. Techniques of photography and painting closely synchronized, which results in a flat two-dimensional area that is trompe l'oeil. Certain areas of the photo such as the hair, or eyes, reveal the third dimension. Meade often integrates her painted model into the surrounding three-dimensional environment and allows the model to be a part of their own world. In this way, she has removed the borders between painting, photography and performing.
